The Collections Viewer displays collection boundaries (e.g. tenements) along with the sites that have been linked to each collection.
It is possible to define several collection types, including prospects, tenements, etc. (This is an administrative task that is explained in xxx.) The viewer can only display data for one collection type at a time. The collection type must be selected when the viewer opens.
A progress dialog is displayed during the data loading and preparation process.
| Depending on the number of outlines and the complexity of collections data in your database, this process may take several minutes to complete. Please be patient while the display is being prepared. |
Once the data loading process has been completed, the main form is displayed.
All available collections are listed in the data grid on the left side of the window, while the collection outlines are displayed in plan view in the graphic display pane on the right side of the window.
This example shows a single prospect (MKwane) that comprises three polygons, one of which is excluded from the prospect area. (Note the message to that effect in the notification area in the bottom left corner of the window.)
The selected prospect is highlighted in the Collections list at the top left of the window.
The Collection Details pane at the centre left of the window has two tabs.
The Surveys tab shows all surveys that have been recorded for this prospect. A new survey instance is added whenever there is a change in the number or shape of individual polygons, or when the metadata associated with the collection needs to be updated. The current or active survey (usually the most recent) is assigned a ranking of 1 to indicate that it is the preferred survey.
The selected polygon (Polygon 1) is highlighted in the Polygons list at the bottom left of the window. The selected polygon is shaded green in the plan view. To select a different polygon, move to the desired row in the polygons list. Alternatively, click inside the polygon of interest in the plan view.
Note that excluded polygons are coloured cyan when selected.
Sites that are linked to the current collection (as displayed in the plan view) are listed on the Site Links tab.
Turn the annotation on or off by toggling the state of the Show Labels toolbutton. Use the font size toolbuttons to increase or decrease the size of the labels. Click the Site Type toolbutton to select the site type for display (e.g. drillholes, point samples, etc.).
| After resizing the main application window, click the Redraw toolbutton to refresh the display and make optimal use of the plan view window. | |
| Click this toolbutton to toggle the state of the Auto-zoom option. With auto zoom enabled, the plan view will be adjusted automatically to display only the polygon(s) belonging to the selected collection. | |
| Click the Zoom button to enable the zoom tool. To enlarge a specified portion of the graphic display, click and drag the left mouse button to define the desired zoom rectangle. | |
| Click these toolbuttons to increase, decrease or reset the scaling factor. | |
| Copy the display image to the Windows® clipboard, from where it can be pasted into a document or drawing. | |
| Save the display image to a file in one of several popular image format. |
Reloading collection data
Click the Load toolbutton on the main menu to reload data from the database, e.g. data pertaining to a different collection type.
Click the Export toolbutton to start the Collections Export Wizard. This process saves the outline data in a format that can be read by popular GIS applications
Check the boxes for all the collections that you wish to include in the export, then click Next.
Currently, the MapInfo® Interchange Format (MIF) is the only file format supported by the export routine. Click Next to continue.
Choose a coordinate reference system for the exported coordinates. If the list contains more than one entry, ensure that you select the one that is most correct or most appropriate for your export data. Click Next to continue.
Choose the appropriate column mapping definition. These mappings are defined using the administrative tools (see xxx). If in doubt, please consult your data adminstrator.
To complete the wizard, click Export and provide a file name and location for the output. Two files (with extensions MIF and MID) will be created by this routine.
