The Coordinate Conversion Calculator is used to perform quick coordinate transformation calculations for individual survey points.
The main aim of this calculator is to test coordinate reference system configurations when dealing with legacy data. Very often it is difficult to obtain information regarding the coordinate reference systems used for the legacy survey data. The best way to determine whether the OCRIS reference system parameters have been defined correctly is to find control points for which the results of a given transformation are known and comparing those coordinates to the results obtained when performing the same transformation in the OCRIS coordinate calculator.
Converting from one Geodetic Datum to another
The example below shows the results obtained when transforming geographic coordinates from the Australian Geodetic Datum 1984 (AGD84) to the Geodetic Datum of Australia 1994 (GDA94).
Choose the source and target coordinate reference systems using the dropdown lists at the top. Enter the latitude and longitude in the left pane, using either decimal degrees or degrees, minutes and seconds. Click Calculate to display the results on the right.
Calculating Projected Coordinates
The example below shows the results obtained when projecting geographic coordinates from the Geodetic Datum of Australia 1994 (GDA94) to a specified UTM map grid.
Choose the source and target coordinate reference systems using the dropdown lists at the top. Enter the latitude and longitude in the left pane, using either decimal degrees or degrees, minutes and seconds. Click Calculate to display the results on the right.
Note that the results displayed on the right always include both the geographic and projected coordinates.
Click the Set button to automatically migrate the appropriate coordinates from the right side to the left side of the form, ready for the next calculation.
Calculating Local Grid Coordinates
The following example shows the results obtained when converting UTM coordinates to a specified local grid.
Choose the source and target coordinate reference systems using the dropdown lists at the top. Enter the UTM coordinates in the left panel and click Calculate to display the results on the right.
Geographic to Local Grid
Note that the steps shown above could have been combined into one calculation.
